Recreate is a unique service that allows ex-offenders to volunteer for up to six months in meaningful roles. Volunteers gain new skills and experiences that will allow them to move forward in their life. They have access to a mixture of volunteering opportunities including landscaping and gardening, painting and decorating, retail and warehousing, and woodwork.
Our Volunteers have worked on projects for community groups, charities, housing associations, Clyde Gateway, Land and Environmental Services and a number of other organisations. With the support of skilled tradesmen, they’ve completed works which include preparing and laying paths, building raised beds and planters, de-weeding, litter-picking, painting, brickwork, erecting fences, grass cutting and general maintenance.
What makes Recreate different from other volunteering opportunities is that each of our Volunteers is matched with a dedicated Mentor.
Our Mentors offer a valuable wraparound service for Volunteers and help them to access additional volunteering opportunities, Housing Support, Employability Services, Money Advice and make positive changes in their personal life. Mentors also support Volunteers to complete CVs, identify training and development needs, and set goals to help them become more work-ready.
This approach ensures that barriers to employment are broken down and Volunteers are better equipped to find solutions to any future problems. By giving our volunteers skills and support to make them work-ready, we can help break the cycle of re-offending and make communities across Glasgow safer.
